Roasted Chicken with Arak and Clementines

Do you ever cook recipes or with ingredients you don’t like? Our mom does, she makes a lot of Shabbat staples over and over again, but never eats them. Our aunt Michelle is the same way. I always thought it was weird.

I do not like anise; not sure why this triple-licorice chicken recipe appealed to me, but I made it, and it was tasty, according to the people who ate it. I guess I’m weird!

Shurba, Tomato and Rice Soup with Kibbe

Brrr, it’s cold in New York these days! I know, I know, it’s winter… but I’ve spent all of my winters in NYC, and it is not a normal one. Plus, I’ve been stuck inside with a now 11-month old (today! happy 11 months, Steve-o!) a lot lately, since sometimes we just can’t bundle enough for a pleasant stroll. So we’ve been hanging out at home, playing on the floor, and cooking and eating a lot of soup. Steven loves it, and it’s just what I need after a long day stuck in our apartment together when David finally comes home and I get some grown-up time. This is Syrian comfort food at its finest.shurba: tomato rice soup with bulgur beef kibbe meatballs {a recipe from the kosher foodies}

I’ll get to the coffee giveaway later, but first: gnocchi! Maybe you thought that you had to have a ricer to make gnocchi, but you don’t! I know, this was a revelation for me, too; you can just grate the potatoes! No fancy equipment necessary. Homemade gnocchi, here I come…

Miso Sweet Potato and Broccoli Bowl with Quinoa

I’ve been a fan of smitten kitchen since I’ve been reading food blogs however many years ago, but I’ve been slacking on my blog-reading since Google shut down Google Reader (wah!). Still, I kept seeing people recommend Deb’s adaptation of Gwyneth’s miso bowl online and I had to try it! miso sweet potato broccoli bowl with quinoa {the kosher foodies}

Cacio e Pepe Pizza with Roasted Radishes

Here’s another pizza recipe for you, because you can never have too much pizza. I love a simple tomato mozzarella, but it’s also fun to mix things up. This way, I can put pizza on the menu every week and it won’t get boring, since there are so many varieties; there are so many things you can put on pizza…IMG_4517

Chicken Salad

I just bought my first rotisserie chicken! Ever since I saw a sign at my local Fairway Market that they now sell kosher rotisserie chickens, I’ve wanted to buy one, but didn’t know what for. Well, today I didn’t know what to feed the baby for dinner, I didn’t make a menu for the week and I needed to pack lunches for the husband to bring to work…Fairway to the rescue!chicken salad recipe {the kosher foodies} Continue reading

Black Bean Tacos

It’s Taco Tuesday! It’s no secret that we love making tacos for dinner (see: tuna tacos, steak tacos, chicken tacos, chili tacos), but these are actually what we usually eat on taco night:

Chocolate and Potato Chip Cookies

Here’s another potato chip recipe for you; I told you I’d make you something sweet! Sweet and salty is definitely a thing. Think salted caramel and chocolate-covered pretzels. Obviously Kettle brands already knows that, otherwise they wouldn’t have made sweet & salty flavored chips, but I took those chips a step further and mixed them into chocolate chip cookies!pareve sweet & salty chocolate and potato chip cookies {the kosher foodies}

Crispy Tomato Chicken with Potato Chips

When the folks over at Kettle Brand asked if they could send us some potato chips to experiment with, I was so excited! I love potato chips, especially the extra thick, crunchy kettle-cooked ones. Jalapeño is my favorite flavor, but David likes salt and vinegar, so we switch off what we buy. But we don’t buy them often, because I don’t want to use the whole bag; I never think of cooking with them!

Kosher Beef Bourguignon

I’ve made mushroom bourguignon before, but I wanted to try the real stuff—well, as real as I could get to it, while still keeping kosher. So I bought myself some facon and got cooking!
