March Linkup: Spaghetti with Roasted Vegetables and Horseradish-Thyme Butter

I guess New Yorkers don’t cook with horseradish very often. When I remembered that this linkup was coming up, I searched high and low for some fresh horseradish root. At my sixth (6th!!!) supermarket stop, I finally found some (It was at Citerella, in case you’re wondering. Whole Foods, Fairway, A Matter of Health, Agata and Valentina, and Gristedes did not have any).

Fried Chicken – December Linkup

photo 4 (1fried chicken by the kosher foodiesWe all know that fried chicken is a classic comfort food. And while all the non-kosher folks make delicious looking chicken that they soak in buttermilk, we can’t really do that. I’ve tried using rice milk or almond milk with a little vinegar in place of the buttermilk, but it’s not the same. This is the real way to do it: coconut milk! Now we kosher folk can have (almost) the same comforting and crispy friend chicken in our own homes. Continue reading

But then I thought to myself that summer is coming and a lot of my family members like the original cold soup, gaspacho, and I realized we don’t have a recipe for it on this blog. So why not just stay simple and make that?homemade gazpacho -- the kosher foodies Continue reading

Stuffed Acorn Squash

When I found out that this month’s link up was stuffing, I was super excited. Not that I’ve ever made  traditional Thanksgiving stuffing/dressing before, but because we’re Syrian, and we stuff everything. I racked my brain to think of something traditionally Syrian we can make for you so that you can have a Syrian Thanksgiving. Then I changed my mind and thought I’d tackle the unknown territory of Thanksgiving stuffing. I cut recipes from all my magazines and bookmarked recipes on blogs from years past. But nothing excited me enough, and I just couldn’t figure out what to share with you this month.  Continue reading
