It was a hot weekend, and David wanted to make ice cream. I didn’t tell him that after we make the ice cream we would have to freeze it and not be able to eat it right away until it was too late. In honor of our blog’s first birthday, here is a delicious and celebratory birthday cake!
Even though we like frozen desserts all year ’round, they’re especially refreshing when it’s hot out. And being that Summer is right around the corner, I’m sure you’d all agree that it’s the perfect time to make gelato!
From what we can tell, Ina Garten really likes chocolate. Everything chocolate that she makes is really chocolatey. So it isn’t a surprise that her Deeply Chocolate Gelato is rich, creamy and, just like the title says, deeply chocolatey. If you really like chocolate and gelato, make this.
And if you like chocolate, you should make her Outrageous Brownies, which we’ve made a pareve version of a bunch of times (but they were pre-blog, so unfortunately we didn’t take photos… next time!)
Where were we? Oh, yes. Chocolate gelato. You should probably serve it with something not as chocolatey, like a fruity syrup or whipped cream.
What? Just because we don’t celebrate Christmas it doesn’t mean we can’t make candy centered around candy canes. In fact, we LOVE candy canes. And we love Danielle’s building because they have a tree with candy canes that we get to eat…the only thing better than candy canes is chocolate with broken candy canes on it. Williams Sonoma thinks it’s okay to sell their peppermint bark for more than $25, so we decided to make our own kosher version of the stuff. It was WAY cheaper and super delicious! A couple of weeks ago I had some store-bought chocolate babka. It was delicious, and I was inspired to try it out with my sister as our next experiment.
Later on, we were scouring the internet and cookbooks for recipes.
We couldn’t find exactly what we were looking for, so we mixed and matched a few recipes to come up with what we hoped was the best chocolate babka ever.
